NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU)

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Services at DIANI BEACH HOSPITAL

At DIANI BEACH HOSPITAL, we are dedicated to providing the highest level of specialized care for newborns in need of critical medical attention. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is designed to provide 24/7 advanced care for premature, low birth weight infants, and those born with complex health conditions. With state-of-the-art facilities and a team of highly skilled neonatal specialists, we offer compassionate and expert care for our smallest and most vulnerable patients.

Our NICU is equipped with the latest technology and staffed by a dedicated team of paediatricians, neonatologists, nurses, and respiratory therapists to ensure that every baby receives the highest standard of care. Whether your baby requires intensive care immediately after birth or extended monitoring for medical concerns, we are here to provide the support and expertise needed during this critical time.

Our NICU Services Include

  • Support for Preterm Babies: Our NICU is equipped to care for premature babies born before 37 weeks of gestation, providing incubators, respiratory support, and specialized nutrition to help them thrive.
  • Developmental Support: Our team monitors the growth and development of preterm infants to ensure they meet key milestones and receive all necessary treatments for a healthy future.
  • Ventilator Care: For babies who have difficulty breathing on their own, we offer mechanical ventilation and non-invasive breathing support (e.g., CPAP) to assist with oxygenation.
  • Surfactant Therapy: We administer surfactant to premature babies whose lungs are not fully developed, helping to prevent respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).
  • Oxygen Therapy: Infants with low oxygen levels are provided with supplemental oxygen to support proper lung function.

Phototherapy: For newborns with jaundice, we use phototherapy to break down excess bilirubin in the baby's bloodstream, a common condition in newborns.

  • Surgical Care: Some newborns may require surgery for congenital conditions, such as heart defects or intestinal issues. Our NICU provides post-operative care for these babies to support their recovery.
  • Specialized Post-Operative Monitoring: We offer continuous monitoring and care following surgeries, ensuring that babies receive the necessary treatments during the healing process.
  • Breastfeeding Support: Our NICU promotes and supports breastfeeding through techniques like lactation consultation and breast milk fortification for preterm infants.
  • Parenteral Nutrition (TPN): For babies who cannot feed orally or breastfeed, we provide nutritional support through intravenous feeding (parenteral nutrition).
  • Nasogastric Feeding: We provide tube feeding for babies who are too weak to feed on their own, ensuring they receive proper nutrition while developing strength.
  • Strict Infection Prevention Protocols: Our NICU follows stringent infection control measures to minimize the risk of infections for our newborns.
  • Continuous Monitoring: We monitor each baby's vital signs, including heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and body temperature, 24/7 to ensure any changes are immediately addressed.
  • Parental Involvement: We believe in the importance of family involvement in the care process. Our team provides regular updates to parents and encourages their active participation in the care of their newborns.
  • Emotional Support: Caring for a newborn in the NICU can be a challenging experience. Our staff offers counseling, guidance, and emotional support for families as they navigate this difficult time.
